Equine therapy has its own guidelines, but CTHA certifies the therapy horse. In fact, CTHA helps owners and organizations with implementing and utilizing a set of standards through thorough documentation that protects the professionalism and credibility of these necessary programs. CTHA recognizes the third partner in equine therapy, the horse. A therapy horse is a professional who works directly with people of all ages to promote growth and healing emotionally, mentally, physically, and spiritually.
CTHA maintains the highest standards in safety and ethics in the field of equine therapy; through consistent and additional training and supervision that is documented thoroughly. We provide appropriations for scientific research in the field and a variety of support and prevention programs for low income children, at risk youth, veterans, and Native Americans. Our programs also include inspectors that ensure that certified horses are maintained above humane standards of treatment, medically, emotionally, physically, mentally and environmentally by documentation and on-site inspection. Deficiencies can be costly, due to fines and re-inspections; it can also result in the suspension and/or loss of certification of all the professionals; and a notification to the SPCA and their license/certification board’s in mental health, if applicable.
